Wendy Leard School of Dance - FAQ

FAQ

Classes
  1. When can we register?
We have two registration dates in early September. Please stop by, check out our fantastic location, and see what we have to offer! Registration dates will be posted on the website and social media. We also accept registrations from September to April.
  2. How can we pay for classes? What are the costs? Do you charge any registration fee or administration fee?
We accept cash, cheque, and e-transfer. Payments can be made in one lump sum due on the date of registration, or with four post-dated cheques. Your first payment will include costume deposits ($40 per class) and payment for their closing number t-shirt ($20). We do not charge fees for registration or administration.

  3. What should my child wear to class?
Dancewear! Something comfortable, that they can freely move in. For ballet, tights and a bodysuit should be worn. For other classes, tight dancewear/activewear. For hip hop, baggier clothing is fine - but please, no street shoes, and no jeans. They should also have appropriate footwear.

  4. Do you close on statutory holidays?
Yes, we do! We will also be closed for three weeks at Christmas this year, due to the two school boards (DSBN and NCDSB) having differing Winter Breaks. We are also closed for March Break.

COVID-19
  1. What COVID-19 protocols do you have in place?
Students and staff are required to use our screening tool every day that they attend class. We have mandatory masking in place, and run air purifiers in our studios. Students are required to socialy distance, unless they are learning choreography for a performance. We also sanitize all rooms daily with a disinfecting fogger machine. You can read our COVID-19 protocols here.

Showcase
  1. Why do you call it Showcase?
We have always called our year-end show "Showcase" because that's what it is - it's not a recital, it's a show. We run it like a professional show - reserved seating, house lights down, no moving from your seat, 15 minute intermission, all performers stay backstage for the entire show, and a finale that includes every performer. Trust us, you will be blown away!
  2. How much are costumes? When do we pay the balance?
Costume costs generally range from $40 to $100 per costume. When costumes are finalized and ready for pickup, usually in April, we will contact you with the balance owing. Upon receipt of the balance, your dancer will receive their costume!

  3. What and when is Picture Day?
Picture Day is the day we bring all of our costumes to the studio and have class pictures professionally taken. In April, you will recieve a letter home with information about the date and times. It is usually a Sunday in May, but don't worry - it's never Mother's Day!

  4. Can I take pictures or video during your show?
We do not allow any pictures or video to be taken during Showcase. We ask that all cell phones are turned off at the beginning of the show. Thank you for respecting this policy. Taking video or pictures is very disruptive to the other audience members around you, as well as to the dancers on stage (trust us, we can see you doing it!) Stop in the lobby before or after the show, and you can order professionally taken pictures, as well as a professionally shot DVD of the entire show! It's the perfect keepsake for your dancer.

  5. How do I get tickets for Showcase? Where is it? Is there assigned seating?
We will send home a newsletter letting you know when Showcase tickets will go on sale. The show is held at the wonderful Mandeville Theatre at Ridley College in St. Catharines. The theatre is a fantastic venue which allows us to put on a professional show. Seating is assigned, and it is wheelchair accessible.

  6. Can I show up for just my child's number in Showcase? Can they leave once they're done?
Audience members will not be allowed to enter the theatre once Opening Number has started. It is a disruption to the rest of the audience, as well as the performers to allow latecomers to enter. If you need to leave, please wait until intermission. All dancers are involved in the Closing Number, so please stick around and applaud for every child who has been working hard in their classes. After the Saturday evening show, we hand out awards onstage. Then we head out to our Showcase Party - and everyone is invited!
